Some 200 Serbs and 50 ethnic Albanians have this morning gathered close to a spot that divides southern and northern Kosovska Mitrovica. There were no incidents as the groups stood at the Brdjani location, reports said. Serbs, Albanians gather at separation point FoNet news agency reports that UNMIK, Kosovo police (KPS), and KFOR personnel are at the separation point. KPS northern Kosovska Mitrovica chief Milija Milosevic and regional spokesman Besim Hoti described the situation as “calm, for the time being”. But the gathering of Serbs and Albanians comes after this morning’s disturbance when individual and machine gun fire was heard in the divided town. Police say they have not identified where the shots came from. FoNet has also unofficially learned that Kosovo’s Premier Hashim Thaci could travel to the southern part of the town this afternoon, “in a bid to defuse tensions”. The Brdjani clashes started several weeks ago when a group of Albanians showed up at the locations, saying they wished to visit their homes and start renovation works. No Serbs live in the southern, Albanian side of the town, while some Albanians and Bosniaks reside in the northern, Serb-dominated part.
