Kosovo Minister Goran Bogdanovic says the DS will participate in the work of the Kosovo Serb Assembly. Bogdanovic, himself a Democratic Party (DS) MP, said that the government and Kosovo Ministry would support the recently established Kosovo Serb assembly in order to achieve political unity. DS to participate in Kosovo Serb assembly The assembly was established on June 28, but the DS and G17 Plus Party members did not participate at its constitutive session. They explained that they were waiting to hear Belgrade’s official position on the matter. Bogdanovic said that the DS supported the assembly’s constitution, but that its representatives had waited for the new government to be formed. The new Kosovo minister could not give an exact date for UNMIK Chief Lamberto Zannier’s visit to Belgrade, but said that one of the most important tasks for the ministry was to establish everyday contact with the UN mission. "I don’t know when Zannier will visit Belgrade, but I do know that the Serbs are desperate for help in solving their everyday problems, such as improving their legal and property security, and enhancing their economic prospects,” he said, pointing out that relations with UNMIK needed to be improved, “because they are the only undisputed international mission” in Kosovo. “This ministry will try to keep everyday contact with UNMIK and that will be one of our priorities, because we do not see UNMIK as an institution that can help only the Serb population, but the rest of the non-Albanian population too,” the minister said. Bogdanovic said that state policy towards Kosovo would be reflected in the united position and joint efforts to keep the province part of Serbia proper. "The new government needs, once more, to repeat its clear opposition to the self-proclaimed independence of Kosovo, and emphasize that it will not recognize it,” he stressed. Bogdanovic stated that the new motto of the Ministry would be “To live in Kosovo and for Kosovo, but not as far as Kosovo”, and that the basic idea was that the issue would be best addressed by people from the province who were more familiar with the problem, and had a direct interest in solving those issues. "The ministry will deal primarily with basic life issues, without trying to make them its political agenda, and that’s why the majority of my colleagues will come from Kosovo,” the minister explained. He added that the ministry would treat all the other parts of Kosovo equally, and that it would be present everywhere where Serbs live. Bogdanovic concluded by saying that the Kosovo Ministry’s goal was to move the Coordination Center to Gracanica, because the north of the province was not the only part of Kosovo that needed to be looked after.
