UN police tried to arrest Pristina Municipal Coordinator Slavisa Nikolic in the Serb enclave of Gracanica today. According to a statement from the Kosovo Ministry’s office in Kosovska Mitrovica, a UN police officer tried to arrest Nikolic this morning in the offices of the Pristina municipality, which have been moved to Gracanica, because he took part in organizing the elections in the province over the weekend. UNMIK: Illegal arrest attempt of Serb official Staff in the municipal building objected to Nikolic’s arrest, whereupon, it is claimed, the officer “threatened to summon UN special units, and warned that he would definitely be arrested by the end of the day.” According to the statement, today’s attempted arrest is one of the reasons for the great tension felt by Serbs in central Kosovo. Beta news agency reported later today that UNMIK spokesman Alexander Ivanko said in Pristina today that there is "no order to arrest Serbs who were in involved in organizing of local and parliamentary elections in Kosovo". "This is an illegal attempt of arrest", Ivanko said and added his office will reveal more details about the incident as they receive them.
