The Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians (SVM) are calling for translations to be made available in parliament. The SVM wants translations to be available in from Serbian to the languages of national minorities and vice versa. Hungarian party wants parliament translations SVM official Laslo Varga said that after six months, there are still no simultaneous translations and that legal regulations are not being translated either. “There has been no formation of a translation service. Now I ask the speaker when it will become oprational, because I believe that the right to use my native language should not be on paper only,” Varga told daily Gradjanski list. Vojvodina Secretary for Administrations, Regulations and National Minorities, Tamas Korhec, said that only provincial administrations respect the legal right for national minorities to use their native languages. The Vojvodina Assembly has six translation services, while the Serbian Parliament and a majority of local self-administration do not have any, Korhec said. He added that the main problem is in the law thatb does not regulate who needs to pay for the translation services, and where the money is coming from for the implementation of the ethic minority language rights.
