The state secretary for Kosovo feels the real talks on Kosovo have only just started and won’t finish until the end of 2008. “This is only really the beginning of the negotiating process. It’s on our interests to reach a solution as soon as possible, but I think we’ll have to hold many more meetings yet,” predicted Dusan Prorokovic in an interview with daily Vecernje Novosti. "No Kosovo solution till 2008" Prorokovic said that it was “illusory to expect” a compromise solution to be reached by December 10, when the Contact Group mediating Troika is scheduled to submit its report to the UN Secretary General. The state secretary said that “nothing spectacular” should be expected from the next round of talks in Vienna on October 22, “other than progress from one meeting to the next” and for as many as themes as possible to be broached to encourage dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina. He added that he did not know the exact opinion of the EU on Kosovo’s status, even though the word “compromise” had been heard recently coming from those quarters. He said that, the efforts of the Troika’s EU representative, Wolfgang Ischinger, to reach a compromise solution aside, “there are still certain initiatives from Brussels creating confusion.” “There should be one telephone in Brussels, one man to tell us what the EU’s position is,” concluded Prorokovic.
