Liberal Democratic Party leader Čedomir Jovanović said that he will also call for discussions to take place outside of the consultations, "because the political course defined by the resolution endangers the future of not only Serbs in Kosovo, but of Serbia as a whole."

He said that the proposed new parliamentary resolution does not reflect the realistic situation and is conflicting.

“I think that this resolution does not show the readiness of the country to take a new political stance after months of searching for a solution for the final status of Kosovo. This resolution is more of a political manipulation which irritates a portion of the international community,” Jovanović said.

“We will not accept this blind unity,” he added, referring to a consensus of the majority of parties in the parliament on the issue.

Even though the Socialist Party of Serbia finds faults with the resolution, leader Ivica Dačić said that the Socialists will vote for the document to show that Serbia is united in its stance regarding Kosovo.

“We asked for the resolution to further stress the use of the existing UN Resolution 1244 and I hope that our proposed text will be accepted with a great majority of votes,” he said.

Dačić added that the resolution states what Serbia must do to defend its national interest if the process of settling Kosovo's status were to lead to a unilateral recognition of the province's independence.
