Parliament to convene Monday

The first part of the inaugural session held February 14 served to verify the mandates of 250 appointed deputies and adopt a resolution on Kosovo.

Borka Vučić, Parliament’s temporary speaker from the Socialists’ ranks, will preside over tomorrow’s session until the appointment of the regular Speaker.

So far only the Democrats submitted an official proposal regarding the Speaker post, proposing Milena Milošević from their ranks.

The Serbian Constitution says that the new Speaker needs the support of more than a half of the total number of lawmakers, which amounts to at least 126.

Lawmakers are also expected to elect Parliament’s deputy speakers, form committees and appoint Parliament’s Secretary.

President Boris Tadić should nominate a candidate for the next premier.
