Price of campaigning

All parties and coalitions that took part in the January vote were given 375,000 euros each, from a 4-million-euros fund the state used to finance the campaign.

Much of the money was distributed proportionally to the number of seats won after the publishing of the final elections results.

Transparency Serbia’s program director Nemanja Nenadić believes the parties have spent more than they were allocated, adding that it is vitally important for the public to know which private fund raisers were involved.

However, he added the situation was better than during the previous elections, since the new financial report format demands more details, thus making the financial side of the campaigning more transparent.

The Republic Electoral Commission (RIK) will have 90 days to verify the data submitted by the parties.
