Cvetković stressed that PE Roads of Serbia set aside EUR 4.79mn, the City of Belgrade EUR 7.5mn, and the European Agency for Reconstruction EUR 6.75mn.

“The Gazela Bridge has not seen any works for 30 years. There are 60,000 sq meters in need of renovation. More than 165,000 vehicles cross the bridge on average each day. The bridge was originally built to handle no more than 30,000” Jocić said.

He added that ahead of the works, a cardboard Roma settlement under the bridge would have to be relocated.

Jocić also said that three main roads in Serbia were slated for reconstruction in 2008.

The projects will be financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and will total EUR 10mn in value.

“Tenders for the contractors will be announced on June 18. All interested companies can submit offers,” Jocić concluded.
