The tribunal also invited Seselj to inform them in writing by March 22 whether he wishes to follow the reading of the verdict from Belgrade, via videolink.

Judge Mandiaye Niang said that the verdict will be announced without the presence of the accused not because his presence is not required, but because he refuses to attend and because Serbian authorities have not done enough to return him to the tribunal, i.e., they are not implementing adequate mechanisms to force him to attend.

This was Niang's dissenting opinion, considering that the judge disagreed with the decision to announce the ruling without Seselj's presence, voted for by presiding Judge Jean-Claude Antonetti and Judge Flavia Lattanzi.

The trial chamber thus accepted the Serbian government's argument that it is not possible to interrupt, or continue in The Hague Seselj's treatment for liver cancer.

The chamber granted the defendant temporary release on its own initiative in November 2014, to allow him to get medical treatment in Serbia.
