Interior Minister Ivica Dacic says that there are 35 to 40 organized crime groups currently active in the country. "In addition, there are some 300 to 400 security-wise interesting persons that are also being monitored, just as 14 other groups or individuals that are engaged in so-called general crime," he explained. Dacic: 35 to 40 criminal groups in Serbia Dacic specified that some of the groups in question are "in the phase of arrest and termination", while others are springing up, and that Serbia's police (MUP) is working "very seriously to destroy them". Dacic also said that the police would not print the so-called White Book "in the sense that it would be a document read by criminals themselves and used by the media". Instead, this collection of data on organized crime will be "improved by forming a department of operative analysis within the Criminal Investigations Police Directorate [UKP]", the minister stated. Dacic added that "it is very important for the police to be careful about the timing of arrests or breaking up of criminal groups, and to have sufficient evidence for that". MUP has increased its efficiency in solving most serious crimes, such as murder, with the percentage now between 70 and 75, said the minister.
