Public debt reaches 38.5 pct. of GDP

Serbia's public debt went up to 38.5 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP) at the end of September. It now amounts to EUR 11.62bn, the Ministry of Finance has stated. Public debt reaches 38.5 pct. of GDP At the end of 2009, the country's public debt was EUR 9.85 billion, which means that it increased by EUR 1.77bn in the first nine months of this year, the ministry stated on its website. Serbia's direct obligations amounted to about EUR 9.97bn at the end of September, of which its internal debt was EUR 4.21bn and its foreign debt was EUR 5.76bn. The overall indirect obligations amounted to EUR 1.65bn at the end of September. At the end of 2008, Serbia's public debt was EUR 8.78bn, which was 25.6 percent of the GDP.
