The government has not appealed against a Vienna court’s ruling prohibiting Austria Bank from paying a EUR 10mn guarantee to Belgrade, writes daily Novosti. According to the paper, the guarantee in question was placed by Austrian companies Alpina and PORR. "No appeal against concession ruling" However, the competent ministries have refused to comment on anything to do with the failed Horgos-Pozega concession, for some days. Novosti states that the possibility of reaching some sort of agreement—even a “secret” one—with the concessionaires by the end of the month has still not been ruled out, in order to avoid arbitration in Paris, given that it could cost Serbia dearly if the experience of other countries is anything to go by. PORR representatives say that the government has still to inform them of whether a meeting is planned to reach an agreement that would finally draw a line under the Horgos-Pozega highway concession. The company makes no secret of the fact that it is preparing for arbitration, if no agreement is reached with the government by the end of the month. “We’ve hired an international team of lawyers, who are preparing a proposal to launch arbitration proceedings,” said PORR’s Director Walter Reckerzugl.
