The City of Belgrade and Belgrade Port owners will soon resolve the dispute over ownership of the land on the right bank of the Danube, says daily Politika. According to the newspaper, of the disputed 75 hectares, the city would receive 55 hectares, while Worldfin, the owner of the port, would receive the remaining 20 hectares. The city would become the owner of 25 hectares on the tip of Ada Huja and another 30 hectares on the peninsula between the paper factory and Pancevo Bridge. “Out-of-court settlement for Belgrade Port?” City representatives had claimed that Belgrade could not surrender the land and that all would be resolved in court. However, as the court has three times ruled in favor of Worldfin, leaving the city without one square meter of the 75 disputed hectares, it was decided that an out-of-court agreement had to be reached. The agreement with Worldfin opens the possibility to begin a project to build a new building for about 30,000 residents, to be designed by Daniel Libeskind, one of the world’s leading architects. The owners of Worldfin are Milan Beko (50 percent) and Ivana Veselinovic, Ivana Miskovic and Marko Miskovic (with an equal share of the remaining 50 percent). Belgrade’s general urban plan envisions the Belgrade port being moved to a new location, though Mayor Dragan Djilas is inclined towards shelving the idea of a completely new port, and rather modernizing the existing port in Pancevo.
