Mass shooting in Iowa amid family dispute – Six dead PHOTO/VIDEO
Six people were killed in a mass shooting at multiple locations in what police described as an “apparent family dispute” in the city of Muscatine, in the U.S. state of Iowa.
“I simply have no words for this act of evil and what it has done to our community,” Muscatine police chief Anthony Kies said on Monday at a press conference.
According to police, in the series of killings the victims died across two houses and one business location, and the case is being treated as domestic violence, ABC reported.
The shooting was reported at around 12:12 p.m. local time on Monday, and the first responding units found four victims dead inside one home.
The suspect, 52-year-old Ryan Willis McFarland, left the house before police arrived and was later located on a trail along the Mississippi River.
“While police were speaking with Ryan Willis McFarland, he took his own life. Police and personnel provided all possible assistance, but could only confirm his death,” Kies said.
The police chief said that the suspect had a prior criminal record, but did not provide further details, nor information about the victims.
The investigation is still ongoing.
