Kallas: "It is important that U.S.–Iran talks continue"

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas called for continued negotiations between the United States and Iran and praised Pakistan for its role in mediating between the two sides.

Kallas made the remarks at the opening of the 8th EU–Pakistan Strategic Dialogue in Islamabad, where she met with Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.

"This is a conflict that affects the entire world, particularly in terms of energy and fertilizer prices. That is why it is important for the ceasefire to hold and for negotiations to continue," Kallas said.

She specifically highlighted Pakistan's role in facilitating direct talks between Washington and Tehran.

Pakistan is currently mediating between the United States and Iran in efforts to end the war that began in late February. A ceasefire took effect on April 8 following mediation by Islamabad.

"We live in a contested geopolitical environment. Tensions exist everywhere, and the risk of escalation is real. We also share common priorities when it comes to the rules-based international order," Kallas said.

"Israeli crimes in Lebanon are clear evidence that the U.S. is not respecting the ceasefire"

Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, said today that the naval blockade and the escalation of war crimes in Lebanon by the Israeli regime are clear evidence that the United States is not respecting the ceasefire, according to a post on his X account.

"Every choice has its price, and the bill eventually comes due. Everything will fall into place," Ghalibaf warned in his post.

Earlier today, Esmail Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran's Foreign Ministry, stated that the ceasefire in Lebanon is inseparable from any final agreement aimed at ending the war, as "the Israeli regime is escalating its attacks on Lebanon in violation of the previous ceasefire."

Baghaei added that all developments over the past several months constitute a "clear and blatant violation of the April 8 ceasefire."
