“All in all, it was a good start, but the continuation depends on further consultations in our capitals and decisions on how we proceed,” Araghchi said, Tasnim agency reports.
Araghchi added that the talks were held in multiple rounds and focused on establishing a framework for further negotiations.
He noted that overcoming mutual distrust will be a key challenge in the next stages of the discussions.
“We must overcome this distrust. Today’s discussion was useful, and the negotiations will continue,” emphasized the Iranian foreign minister.
In Oman, indirect talks between Iran and the U.S. were held today with the aim of reducing tensions between the two countries, which escalated following the U.S. bombing of Iranian nuclear sites last June and the violent suppression of protests in Iran.
Although the details of the talks have not been made public, the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that its foreign minister, Badr al-Busaidi, met separately with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi and then with U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Donald Trump’s son-in-law.
