Ukraine has a new powerful weapon; Zelensky: Russians, this is our response VIDEO
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky today released footage of the launch of long-range “Long Neptune” missiles during a nighttime strike on targets deep inside Russia.
This is the first time Kyiv has publicly showcased the powerful weapon in action: an upgraded version of the anti-ship missile that sank the flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, Moskva, in April 2022, reports Kyiv Post.
“Ukrainian Long Neptunes. They do more,” Zelensky briefly wrote on Telegram. He cfgtonfirmed that Ukrainian forces struck specific locations in Russia but did not reveal further details.
“This is our fully justified response to Russian terror. Ukrainian missiles deliver tangible and precise results every month,” he said, thanking everyone involved in the development of Ukraine’s missile program.
What is the “Long Neptune”?
It is a modernized version of the domestically produced Neptune anti-ship missile. The first display of the upgraded missile appeared in a video released by the weapons manufacturer Zbroya for Ukraine’s Independence Day on August 24, where it was shown alongside Bogdan howitzers and naval drones.
Back in March of this year, President Zelensky announced that the new version can hit targets up to 1,000 kilometers away — a huge leap compared to the original model’s 300‑kilometer range. It is believed that this particular missile was used in Ukraine’s attack on the Russian naval port of Novorossiysk in May, when it flew more than 750 kilometers, marking one of Kyiv’s longest‑range missile strikes since the start of the Russian invasion.
Technical improvements and new features
The defense portal Militari says that the larger missile body explains its significantly extended range. They suggest that the new weapon may be capable of carrying a warhead with more explosives, an enhanced penetrator, or an entirely new guidance system. Modernization plans from 2023 included an infrared seeker or a terminal‑phase guidance system.
At the time, an increase in warhead payload from 150 kg to 350 kg was planned, although the final payload of the upgraded version has not yet been confirmed. The fins on the new missile also appear to be larger, which could contribute to greater range or provide better maneuverability in flight. Although the Neptune was originally designed as an anti‑ship missile, these upgrades confirm that it has been adapted for land‑attack missions.
