Drama on Netanyahu's flight

The Times of Israel said such a trajectory, visible on the Flight Tracker website, may be an attempt to avoid problems related to an International Criminal Court (ICC) warrant for his arrest for alleged Israeli war crimes in the war against Hamas in Gaza.

Many countries have said they would arrest Netanyahu if he was present on their soil, following an arrest warrant issued by the ICC for alleged war crimes, which Israel denies.

France, which is usually along the route this summer, announced last year that it would not arrest the Israeli prime minister, although it drew criticism from the European Union, according to an Israeli portal.

According to this report, the flight, by the Israeli state plane "Zion Wing", is likely to avoid the airspace of Spain, which has promised to assist in the ICC investigation.

When the Israeli prime minister flew to the US in February, that trip was also extended, in part because of concerns about the ICC's arrest warrant for Netanyahu.

Netanyahu reportedly canceled a trip to Azerbaijan in May to avoid flying over Turkey, whose president is Recep Tayyip Erdogan, a fierce critic of Israel who welcomed the warrant for his arrest, according to an Israeli portal.
