Israel and the United States bombed Iran's nuclear facilities in June with the stated goal of preventing Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Tehran denies having such plans.

"Regular threats to Iran to launch new missile and bomb attacks on its nuclear facilities cannot but cause serious concern. The cynicism of such statements is enhanced by the fact that they are presented under the guise of fictitious concerns for the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons," said Zakharova.

"The bombing of nuclear facilities should not become a common, routine international practice. The catastrophic risks associated with this cannot be ignored, much less justified."

Russia has cultivated closer ties with Iran since the start of the war in Ukraine, and this year signed a strategic partnership agreement with the Islamic Republic.

Zakharova said that a sustainable peace solution and a promise not to carry out new attacks on Iran are prerequisites for the normalization of cooperation between Tehran and the UN nuclear protection agency.

US President Donald Trump recently repeated threats that if Tehran tries to renew its nuclear program, the US "will wipe it out faster than you can point a finger at it".
