The Air India passenger plane, which crashed today at the airport in the Indian city of Ahmedabad in the state of Gujarat, was carrying 244 passengers, and the media reported that at least 133 people died.

The plane crashed into the dormitory of the BJ Medical College in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Reuters reported, citing police sources.

Footage released by news agency PTI showed the burning wreckage of the plane, with thick black smoke billowing into the sky near the airport.
Director General of the Directorate of Civil Aviation, Faiz Ahmed Kidwai, told AP that the plane on flight AI 171, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, crashed five minutes after takeoff at 1:38 p.m. local time.
The flight was directed to Gatwick Airport in London.
There were 232 passengers and 12 crew members on the plane.
As reported by the BBC, the provincial prime minister of Gujarat, Bhupendra Patel, announced that officials had been instructed to carry out "urgent rescue and sanitary operations".

Patel pointed out on the X network that the formation of a "green corridor" was ordered for the rapid transport of injured passengers to hospitals, as well as to provide all necessary medical services.
For now, there is mixed information about the number of passengers on the flight.
"Indian Times" reports that there were 242 people on the plane, including 230 passengers and 12 crew members.
