Russian Ilyushin tackles the fires on Stolovi for the first time: Drops 168 tons of water on fire zones

The Ilyushin Il-76 aircraft of Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations operated for the first time over the fire zone on Mount Stolovi since being deployed to Serbia, while firefighting efforts continued over the Deliblato Sands.

The Russian aircraft made a total of four sorties: three over the Deliblato Sands and one over Mount Stolovi. During these operations, it dropped a total of 168 tonnes of water on the fire zones—126 tonnes over the Deliblato Sands and 42 tonnes over Stolovi.

Since beginning its deployment in Serbia, and as of August 23, the Ilyushin Il-76 has made 19 sorties and dropped a total of 798 tonnes of water on fire zones.

According to data from the Serbian-Russian Humanitarian Center, the aircraft continues to support firefighters and rescue teams battling the fires on the ground.

Aerial support is an important part of the joint efforts of all forces on the ground, particularly at fire zones where assistance is most urgently needed.
