The end is near?; A new proposal for a ceasefire agreement is expected
Mediators believe that Hamas will soon submit an updated proposal for a cease-fire agreement in Gaza, which will be closer to what US special envoy Steve Witkoff presented, The Times of Israel reported today, citing sources.
On Saturday, Hamas submitted a response to Witkoff's proposal, which the US envoy called unacceptable.
Since then, Egyptian and Qatari mediators, along with Witkoff's representative in Doha, Palestinian-American businessman and political activist Bishar Bahbah, have been working with Hamas officials to soften or remove some of the group's changes to the U.S. proposal, the sources added.

The main point of contention in the talks remains whether the temporary truce being discussed leaves enough time for Israel to continue fighting after it expires, or whether the US administration's assurances in the proposal are enough to convince Hamas that the truce will last permanently, The Times of Israel added.
