"I encourage member states to go beyond confirmations and think creatively about the concrete steps they will take to support a sustainable two-state solution before it is too late," Guterres said at a Security Council meeting on the Middle East.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot told the Security Council that the goal is to achieve progress in international recognition of Palestine and the normalization of that country's relations with Israel, as well as guaranteeing Israel's security.

"This is how we will be able to guarantee the security of Israel and its regional integration, while responding to the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinians to have their own state," he said.

Barrot added that the road map for the effective implementation of the two-state solution also requires disarming Hamas militants, defining a credible government structure in the Gaza Strip that will exclude Hamas, and reforming the Palestinian Authority, reports Reuters.

France and Saudi Arabia will co-host a conference at the United Nations in June.

The State Secretary of the Slovenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Barbara Žvokelj, called at the UN Security Council session on the Middle East for a two-state solution - Israel and Palestine, stressing that the war in the Gaza Strip does not make Israel safer.

October 7 was the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust, followed by the deadliest 570 days for Palestinians. "We have never witnessed such trauma," she said.

Žvokelj criticized Israeli attacks on humanitarian, health and media workers, as well as on civilians, and the destruction of civilian and humanitarian facilities in Gaza, also warning of the blockade of humanitarian aid and the discrediting of the UN.

She called for full respect for international law and reiterated that the war in the Gaza Strip does not bring greater security to Israel, reports STA.

"Slovenia has long been a strong supporter of the two-state solution," said Žvokelj, mentioning that Slovenia recognized Palestine last year.

She added that Slovenia will continue to advocate for the security of Israel and supports the work of the Palestinian Authority, including its path to reform, but expressed opposition to territorial or demographic changes in Palestine.
