Erdogan lashes out at Merz: "Can't you see what's happening?"
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met today in Ankara with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. After the meeting, they held a press conference during which Erdoğan sharply criticized Merz.
Erdogan sharply criticized Germany for, as he said, its ignorance of the Israeli genocide, hunger, and attacks in Gaza. He stated that Israel possesses nuclear and other weapons which it uses to threaten Gaza, adding that the Palestinian militant group Hamas has none of these.
He noted that Israel has attacked Gaza again in recent days despite a ceasefire in the enclave.
“Doesn’t Germany see this?” he asked, adding that it is the humanitarian duty of Turkey, Germany, and other countries to end the hunger and massacres in Gaza.
For context, after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued orders, severe attacks on Gaza followed despite a ceasefire signed on October 10. Among the casualties are a large number of women and children.
Over 100 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since October 10, and nearly the entire enclave has been devastated by the consequences of the war.
