After a brief break and a calmer weekend following severe weather in Croatia, another change is approaching.

A red weather alert has already been issued for Croatia, which will be the first to be affected.

Monday, like the weekend, will be mostly cloudy with occasional rain, especially in the eastern regions, and local showers are possible.

The highest daytime temperatures will range between 8 and 13 degrees Celsius, and from 14 to 17 degrees Celsius along the Adriatic coast.

Danger on the Adriatic

On Tuesday, conditions will be partly to mostly cloudy and relatively windy across most areas. Rain is expected in some places, with occasional showers in Dalmatia, which may be heavier, while in mountainous parts of Croatia, sleet and snow are possible.

According to the Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (DHMZ), the bora wind is strengthening over much of the Adriatic, first in the northern part, with storm-force gusts expected under Velebit in the afternoon. In the far south, easterly and southerly winds will prevail.

Dangerous Weather on the Adriatic – Red Alert Issued

A new strong weather change with high winds is expected on Wednesday. According to the DHMZ forecast, Tuesday and Wednesday will be cloudy inland, with rain in places, especially in eastern Croatia, and in Gorska Hrvatska, sleet and snow are also possible.

On Thursday, light rain is possible, mainly in the afternoon in the east. Moderate to strong north and northeast winds are expected inland, while on the Adriatic a strong and stormy bora will blow, with hurricane-force gusts mainly at the foot of the Velebit mountains. Later on Thursday, the wind is expected to ease slightly.

Warnings – Red Alert Activated

Alarms have been issued for almost the entire country for Tuesday and Wednesday. According to current forecasts, Wednesday will also bring dangerous weather in some areas of Croatia.

The highest red alert has been issued for the Kvarner region, where storm-force bora winds are expected.

"The weather is extremely dangerous and poses a high risk to health, even life-threatening, especially for sailors. There is also a significant risk of damage to coastal infrastructure. Be aware of the dangers, pay attention, and follow the latest weather reports. The public is advised to avoid travel and staying near exposed coastal areas. It is very likely that ferries will not operate, so if you travel, follow traffic updates," the warning states.

Cold weather is expected to last until the end of the first ten days of April, after which a return of “true” spring is possible.
