Vučić from New York: "Our task is to preserve peace and stability"; "We must talk to everyone"

At the beginning of his address, the Serbian president commented on the speech delivered by his U.S. counterpart, Donald Trump.

“Listening carefully to President Trump, it is clear to you that the same policy will continue — namely, an attempt by the United States to maintain its dominance, primarily in relation to China. You heard him emphasize that there is a significant difference between China and the United States when it comes to artificial intelligence. As for conflicts around the world, it is clear that there are no magic wands that can solve them. I don’t know whether we heard much that was new, but what you can see is that an increasing number of leaders are gathering here. This demonstrates a different approach on the part of Europe, which is a sensible thing. They have stopped belittling the United Nations,” Vučić said.

“Our task is to preserve peace and stability and to talk to everyone. We still have a great deal to accomplish. We must talk to as many people as possible.”

He said that, in his talks with European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, they discussed Ratko Mladić, as well as the situation in Kosovo and Metohija and the ongoing election campaign.

“I asked what kind of campaign it is when you threaten your opponents with rape, and do so from an official account. We also discussed threats against women. My task is to protect women in Serbia. What they said is astonishing and frightening.”

He stressed that Europe was acting wisely by expanding cooperation with Latin America, and said that the world was eagerly awaiting a meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Donald Trump.

“We are all here, but we are small. Everyone is waiting for the Trump–Xi meeting,” Vučić said.
