Vučić: "Who opened Pandora's Box of disregard for the UN Charter?"; "The world has taken the wrong path"

“We had a major conference, the Summit of Multilateralism, chaired by António Guterres. This is a new council that will not replace the United Nations, but it is evidence that we are not resolving issues through the UN Charter; instead, we are only deepening our divisions,” Vučić said at the outset.

“I had the opportunity to speak with several leaders. I thanked von der Leyen, because depending on the election results, it may happen that we never see each other again,” he said, adding: “She came to places that no one else was willing to visit.”

During the day, Vučić held meetings with the presidents of Finland, Romania, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Poland — Alexander Stubb, Nicușor Dan, Janez Janša, Petr Pavel and Karol Nawrocki — as well as with Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker, he said.

Vučić said that Serbia can “fight for its honor and the pride of its country,” but that it is very difficult to change what “the powerful say and what the powerful decide.”

“We can fight for our honor and for the pride of our country, but changing what the powerful say and decide is very difficult,” Vučić said.

“It is interesting that this morning, in conversations with several European leaders — the prime minister of Slovenia, the president of Romania, the president of Poland, the chancellor of Austria, the president of Finland, and someone else as well — in any case, the president of the Czech Republic too,” Vučić said.

He noted that one thing had particularly caught his attention.

“As never before, everyone is invoking the United Nations Charter. And that is what particularly bothers me and what I will talk about tomorrow in my address here before the United Nations,” Vučić said.

He added that in his address it would be “quite clear who opened Pandora’s box of disregard for the United Nations Charter, and when.”

“The first conflict was not in Ukraine”

Vučić also said he would raise questions that he believes “no one could possibly answer”.

“If for no other reason, then because of history, and at least so that it is not forgotten and so that the story is not remembered as if the first war or conflict on European soil was the one in Ukraine. It was not,” Vučić said.

“There was also the case when 19 NATO countries attacked Serbia, and it is our responsibility to speak about that and inform the world about it,” the Serbian president said.

Important talks with the Americans

Speaking about relations with the United States, Vučić said he would meet with U.S. official Landau today to discuss all important issues.

“Today I will speak with Mr. Landau about all the important issues. I believe he may be one of the most important points of contact in the chain of discussions within the strategic dialogue we are conducting with the Americans,” Vučić said.

He added that the talks would cover investment and politics, as well as “all the other key issues that we need to resolve with the Americans.”

Regarding the arrival of a new U.S. ambassador to Serbia, Vučić said he believed this would happen by the end of the year.

“I believe it will be by the end of the year, that the new ambassador will arrive in Serbia by the end of the year,” he said.

“The race is very uncertain”

Asked by reporters to comment on statements by former Health Minister Danica Grujičić, Vučić said:

“If Mrs. Grujičić and her ideas were to prevail, Serbia would disappear incomparably faster. As things stand, Serbia is guaranteed not only survival, but the fastest possible progress in its history,” Vučić said.

He urged citizens to analyze political positions, conduct and programs for themselves.

“Let people simply analyze everything and think about it, and look at who behaved how and when, morally, but above all — and much more importantly — let them look at the results, the ideas, the programs and the plans, and they will see and understand everything,” Vučić said.

Speaking about opinion polls ahead of the elections, Vučić said he did not want to comment on them.

“I think the race is very uncertain, that the blockade list has an advantage and that it will be difficult to catch up with it, but we will give everything we have and try to fight until the very last moment,” Vučić said.

Vučić concluded by telling women in Serbia, as he put it, “not to worry.”

“We will fight, and we will never allow them to demean women or to demean the best, most responsible and most serious part of our society,” Vučić said.

“And we will not only fight, but in the end I believe that, even if only by a small margin, the citizens of Serbia will understand very well what awaits us in the future if such people prevail. Whether that will happen or not remains to be seen,” Vučić concluded.
