“We had a meeting with the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, I held talks with the President of the Slovak Republic, Peter Pellegrini, and I have just finished a bilateral meeting with UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay. These were important and productive meetings. On the bilateral level, I expect the Slovak President to visit our country before the end of the year, and I hope we will be able to further strengthen our relations,” Vučić told reporters.

He stated that his conversation with President Pellegrini focused on Serbia’s European path as well as on bilateral relations, which he believes can be further improved.

Vučić also emphasized the importance of the fact that the UNESCO General Conference is being held outside Paris for the first time, congratulating the hosts on the organization.

Regarding the Trump-Xi meeting

Vučić stated that he had previously mentioned that when the Chinese President visited Serbia, he had indicated that they expected things to start changing only from January.

“I also said at the time that it was important for China to be involved, because without them it is difficult to reach any major agreement. I think this is good for the world. What matters for us is that it went well, and we don’t need to know all the key details. We have very good relations with China, and I would say we are also striving to build ever better relations with the United States,” Vučić said.

Regarding the news that Syria recognized Kosovo, President Vučić said that this was expected.

“We have maintained our position in UNESCO and in international law, while our southern province has not. It was an expected development that Syria recognized Kosovo, and now it is clear how important the principled approach of Bashar al-Assad while in power was for us. It becomes evident when someone comes under the strong influence of one of the key countries in the region, like Turkey. The script is the same as last year in Antalya: they call our foreign minister, don’t have time for a bilateral meeting, and then Sudan recognized Kosovo’s independence. In Syria, they receive orders and act accordingly. It is difficult to maintain independent leadership, but since I see that they are happy, we will wait for certain things to unfold, and in the next 10 days we will have something to pleasantly surprise them with. We will continue our fight to preserve Serbia within its borders. This is a marathon, not a 50-meter sprint,” Vučić said.

On the support of Serbs from Kosovo and Metohija

"Serbs from Kosovo and Metohija came on April 12 to Belgrade, and they want to come to Novi Sad as well, but they support Serbia and the Serbian president. I am supported by the Serbs from Kosovo and Metohija, not by Sulejman Ugljanin," Vučić emphasized.

As a reminder, the 43rd General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) began today in Samarkand. During the two-week session, a new Director-General of the organization is expected to be elected, and the first global recommendation on the ethics of neurotechnology is also anticipated to be adopted.
