Vučić to address the public tonight following the verdicts against former KLA leaders
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić will address the public today at 6:30 p.m. regarding the verdicts handed down in The Hague against former KLA leaders convicted of war crimes.
The Hague court has sentenced four former leaders of the so-called KLA to a combined total of 81 years in prison.
The Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague today handed down verdicts against four former KLA leaders, who were charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity. The Kosovo Specialist Chambers sentenced former KLA leader Hashim Thaçi to 25 years in prison for war crimes.
Thaçi was found guilty of unlawful or arbitrary arrest and deprivation of liberty as a war crime against at least 385 people, cruel treatment as a war crime against at least 49 people, torture as a war crime against at least 303 people, and murder as a war crime against 96 people.
The Kosovo Specialist Chambers sentenced Kadri Veseli to a single sentence of 18 years in prison for unlawful arrest and deprivation of liberty, cruel treatment, torture and murder. The Trial Panel found Veseli guilty of unlawful or arbitrary arrest and deprivation of liberty as a war crime against at least 385 people, cruel treatment as a war crime against at least 49 people, torture as a war crime against at least 303 people, and murder as a war crime against 96 people.
The Specialist Chambers in The Hague sentenced Rexhep Selimi to 13 years in prison for war crimes.
Selimi was found guilty of unlawful or arbitrary arrest and deprivation of liberty as a war crime against at least 385 people, cruel treatment as a war crime against at least 49 people, torture as a war crime against at least 303 people, and murder as a war crime against 96 people.
The Trial Panel of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague sentenced Jakup Krasniqi to a single sentence of 25 years in prison for war crimes.
Krasniqi was found guilty of unlawful or arbitrary arrest and deprivation of liberty as a war crime against at least 385 people, cruel treatment as a war crime against at least 49 people, torture as a war crime against at least 303 people, and murder as a war crime against 96 people.
In its closing arguments, the Prosecution requested sentences of 45 years in prison for each of the accused: Hashim Thaçi, Jakup Krasniqi, Rexhep Selimi and Kadri Veseli.
