The police in this British city said on Tuesday morning they were convinced the attacker died in the explosion, and that he was acting alone, the newspaper Guardian is reporting, adding that "investigators are trying to establish whether the bomber was part of a wider network."
According to British media, the attack "may have been announced on social networks."
Islamic State has in the meanwhile claimed responsibility. The attacker has been identified as 22-year-old Salman Abedi.
According to the daily Telegraph, Abedi was "born in Manchester and grew up in tight-knit Libyan community that was known for its strong opposition to Colonel Muammar Gaddafi’s regime."
The same newspaper said on Tuesday that the bombing was the worst terrorist attack in Britain since July 2005.
