Around 500 economic migrants, mostly from Iran, Pakistan, Morocco, Bangladesh, Kurdistan, Nepal and Somalia, have been protesting over the sealed borders since last Thursday.

Some are have embarked on a hunger strike, while some who previously sewed their lips in protest are carrying banners reading “Please, open the border”.

The migrants told Tanjug's reporter they would stay there until the border opened so they could enter Macedonia, then Serbia, and go to Western and Northern European countries.

They are urging German Chancellor Angela Merkel to wield influence on European institutions to assist them and lift the restrictions.

After the terrorist attacks in Paris and reactions of countries that are members of the Schengen zone, Slovenia closed its border for transit of economic migrants, which prompted Croatia, Serbia, and Macedonia to introduce the same measure.
