Szijjarto has announced that the signing of the agreement is expected next week during the China-Central and Southeastern Europe summit. The deal will then be ratified in Hungary's parliament and aligned with EU rules.

Electrification will be carried out on the 166 kilometers of the Hungarian stretch of the railroad, where modern safety devices will be installed. A second track will also be built for freight trains up to 740 meters long.

"Passenger trains will take 2.5 hours to travel between the two capital cities," Szijjarto has been quoted as saying at the end of his two-day visit to China.
