Nikolić hails "new chapter" in Serbia-Belarus relations

President Tomislav Nikolić said on Friday in Belgrade that a new chapter has been opened in relations between Serbia and Belarus.

BELGRADE President Tomislav Nikolic said on Friday in Belgrade that a new chapter has been opened in relations between Serbia and Belarus. He made the statement during a meeting with visiting Belarus Deputy Prime Minister Piotr Prokopovich. Nikolic hails "new chapter" in Serbia-Belarus relations Nikolic thanked on the principled support of Belarus for the protection of Serbia's territorial sovereignty and integrity and its refusal to recognize Kosovo, the president's press service announced. The officials agreed that the cooperation between Serbia and Belarus will help boost the economies of the two countries, and Nikolic noted that it will contribute to job creation. He underlined that he will use his personal influence to ensure that all projects be safe, adding that the Serbian side will do its best to make sure that their realization be fast and efficient. Prokopovich noted that the visit of the Belarus delegation to Serbia resulted in the forming of two holding companies which will manufacture hydraulic and agricultural machines, and the existing production of tractors, buses and trucks will be expanded. He noted that the two countries stepped up the cooperation, especially the economic one, and that in the first quarter of 2013, the bilateral trade saw a year-on-year increase of 30 percent. If this trend continues, the countries will meet the target from the plan that envisages the bilateral trade worth USD 500 million on an annual level, the Belarus deputy prime minister concluded.
