Chief of Serbian Armed Forces General Staff Miloje Miletic met in Belgrade with Chairman of the NATO Military Committee Giampaolo di Paola. They on Wednesday discussed a possible modification of the military technical agreement concluded in 1999, after the end of NATO's attacks, which established an air security zone between central Serbia and Kosovo and Metohija. Talks on modification of military technical agreement Miletic told a joint news conference with Di Paolo that the talk focused on modification and implementation of the military technical agreement. "This issue is certainly very important for Serbia's relations with NATO and it is very important for the relaxation of relations," he said, adding that this is not an issue that should be resolved by the Army of Serbia and the NATO Military Committee. Di Paola said that the military technical agreement was already modified previously over the years when the conditions were right. Talks are in progress on a new modification and the outcome is yet to be seen, but it is certain that both sides are willing to deal with this issue, he said. The military technical agreement was a part of the Kumanovo agreement which was signed on June 9, 1999, ending the NATO air strikes against Serbia. Along with the no-fly zone which is still in force, this document established a ground safety zone along the administrative line between central Serbia and Kosovo. Serbian military officials have repeatedly been saying that it was time for a complete abolition of both restrictions, because the Serbian Army and KFOR troops, who are responsible for security in Kosovo, are not enemies. By facilitating entry of the Serbian Army and police into the security zone with appropriate weapons in recent years, a part of the military technical agreement was modified. (Tanjug)
