Miroslav Lajcak says that Bosnian political leaders have been pushing for their partisan agendas, preventing Bosnia from moving forward. "After 13 years, politicians still ask the international community to do their work, which they respect only if it’s in the interest of the party or a group they belong to," Lajcak said. "Bosnia reminiscent of Serbia-Montenegro" “The international community, especially the EU, expects that 13 years after the war, Bosnia-Herzegovina should take matters into its own hands,” the high international representative told Sarajevo daily Dnevni Avaz. Lajcak added that anyone who thought that international community could favor sides or pursue policy to please one of the country's nations was wrong. "I have seen the same atmosphere that I see today in the Sarajevo – Banja Luka relations twice in my life. I saw it first in the Bratislava – Prague relations, and then in those between Podgorica and Belgrade, and we all know how that turned out,” the Slovak diplomat warned. "You cannot state that you are pro Bosnia-Herzegovina, while treating one half of the country as hostile. You cannot say that you respect Bosnia-Herzegovina while you’re working on destabilization of the state institutions. Also, you can’t consider your own country as an enemy to your entity, which is its integral part,” he continued. Lajcak also said that the international community could not solve problems that were supposed to be solved by Bosnia-Herzegovina’s politicians, adding that Bosnian officials need to do their jobs. "If anyone thinks that they can sit in their offices and send irresponsible political messages, at the same time expecting the international community to do their work, then there’s something wrong in their perception. The well-being of citizens of any country depends on the domestic politicians, who are chosen by the people, not the international community,” he said. Lajcak told the newspaper that Bosnian politicians are leading the country into deeper confrontations and added that the inner structure of this country can be changed only through agreement of its peoples, without imposing any force.
