U.S. senator: Ceasefire won't last one week

Under the agreement, the ceasefire comes into force on February 15, and all parties will, within two weeks, withdraw heavy weapons in order to create a security zone.

“If that happens, pigs will be flying,” the Republican senator said, according to Sputnik. .

He added that diplomatic efforts to achieve peace will not bear fruit unless the U.S. sends "defensive military assistance to Ukraine."

McCain last week took part in the Munich security conference and commented on the Ukrainian army's use of cluster bombs, to say the following:

"If we supplied them with weapons that they needed, they would not have to use cluster bombs. This is partly our fault."

Human Rights Watch confirmed in a report last November the claims of residents in the Donestsk and Lugansk republics that the Ukrainian troops used cluster ammunition in populated areas.
