Guarded by 4,000 police officers the crowd converged on the Israeli consulate building but there was no repeat of the violent incidents during a pro-Palestinian rally in Paris a day earlier.

In London’s Trafalgar Square a gathering of 4,000 pro-Israel demonstrators passed off relatively peacefully.

The rally called for an end to violence in the Middle East.
