NOVI SAD The national council of the Slovak minority in Serbia marked its 10th anniversary on Thursday with a ceremonial session. Awards and recognitions were given out to deserving individuals and institutions. Slovak national council celebrates 10th anniversary Council President Ana Tomanova-Makanova presented the council's annual awards head of the Vojvodina provincial government, Bojan Pajtic, Education Minister Zarko Obradovic, and head of the Office for Slovaks Living Abroad and former Slovak Ambassador in Belgrade Igor Furdik. Awards were also presented to former Minister of Culture and Speaker of the Serbian parliament Predrag Markovic, and former Minister of Human and Minority Rights Svetozar Ciplic. Thanking the council for the award, Pajtic said the Slovak national community is one of the biggest in Vojvodina and has left a big mark in culture, education and the entire heritage of the nations living in the province. "Slovaks have a very distinguished place in the provincial government when it comes to preserving multiethnicity, as something that history has given us and that we are guarding very carefully," said Pajtic. The event was attended by representatives of the Slovak, Serbian and Vojvodina governments, the provincial assembly, the Slovak Embassy in Belgrade, national councils, religious communities, and cultural institutions.
