More than 1,000 raspberry farmers are still peacefully protesting near the western Serbian town of Arilje, said protests. They are requesting the state to increase raspberry purchase price to RSD 126 per kilogram. Raspberry farmers continue protest Vilamet Raspberry Farmers Association President Dragan Bogdanovic has said that raspberry farmers will not give up on their requests to return the prices to the last year’s level, adding that they have so far only given up on going to Belgrade since police are not allowing them to do so. “Raspberry farmers do not want to achieve the goal violently and to have some new incidents. We will wait here until some solution is found. We have announced our peaceful protest in time and we are not blocking any roads, we are being blocked by the police and they are not letting us go to Belgrade,” he stressed. Bogdanovic added that raspberry farmers and Agriculture Ministry State Secretary Ljubisa Dimitrijevic did not manage to find a solution to the problem at the meeting held last night in the town of Pozega. According to him, the farmers did not want to discuss possible offer that the Agriculture Ministry’s representative presented as a possible solution. According to the offer, farmers would get 55 percent of the price achieved in the market and 45 percent would go to freezers. Police stopped about 2,000 farmers who were on their way from Arilje to Belgrade on their tractors on Tuesday. Several people were injured in clashes that ensued. (Beta)
