"Why do industries want socialist solutions for economic problems? Let the market carry itself."

Because this idea is precisely what has led to the economic calamity in the USA. Republicans theme is to make government as small as possible, they want more deregulation so corporations can do whatever they want, pay people whatever they want, and not have to enforce labor protection because it costs too much at the expense of the people working. This always ends up hurting the middle class and the poor and only benifiting the wealthy. If you let wealthy corporatists decide what everyone makes....people will make nothing and there will just exist two classes...the wealthy and the poor. This is actually pretty much the state of affairs in Serbia currently. Think of the Soviet Union. It is my understanding that the Soviet Union collapsed because it ignored its infrastructure and the working class while it spent most of its treasury on the military. Basically, the USSR fell apart because nothing worked. And the reason nothing worked is because there were essentially no consumers in its non-productive society. They were just workers on fixed incomes. This is what happens in a large country when the central government is dysfunctional. The country "balkanizes" and political alliances deteriorate. Some areas become extremely poor, while others have all the political influence. You can hold a state or a city together with relatively small government, but a country of 7,306,677+ needs a central government of commensurate size to ensure that each citizen living in each area and city has the same rights, opportunities and protections. What you have now in Serbia is a group of ideologues and Oligarch's in a certain percentage of the government holding the rest of the government and the nation's economy hostage all because of greed. These are political theologues, as much as any devout Marxist, even though they may not believe in the same theology. At the end of the day, minority despotism is still despotism. There have to be rules and regulations to protect the middle class from being taken advantage of. With no middle class...the economy will not grow because they will not have money to put back into it. Now, Serbians are making just enough money to live. They don't have money to invest or do anything that those wealthy Serbs can do. The wealthy Serbs make up a fraction of the population. The divide between the wealthy and poor will only increase. That's not fair and that's not freedom.

Why should the government increase it? Surely, there are other places that these farmers can sell their raspberries too, considering how much of the stuff is actually grown in Serbia. Can't they just sell it directly to local markets in Serbian towns who are willing to offer different (and possibly higher) prices for the raspberries?
