Divac in push to secure housing for refugees

A humanitarian organization set up by Vlade Divac has started a campaign to purchase homes for refugees. The Serbian basketball legend's organization, dubbed "Divac", is calling on all interested owners of homes in Serbian villages to join the campaign. Divac in push to secure housing for refugees "We wish to inform those selling that 'Divac' will allocate each [refugee] family a maximum of EUR 7,000 for a house in a village. The families themselves, although they are rarely able to do so, can add up to EUR 3,500 to this for the purchase," the organization's Director Ana Koesal told Beta news agency in Belgrade today. She added that the homes must be in a good condition and without any lingering property rights disputes. So far, the campaign has raised funds to by 100 such rural properties, but money for another 500 must be secured to solve the housing problems of all the people still living in collective centers in Serbia. According to official data released earlier this year, Serbia has the highest number of refugees in Europe.
