Prosecution looks into Đinđić murder background

“That is my professional and human obligation. It is within this context that I believe former Interior Minister Dušan Mihajlović’s recent statements should be investigated in order to determine the events that preceded the murder of Serbia’s prime minister,” he said.

However, Radovanović said that a special procedure will be set up to investigate all the earlier accusations made in public, including the what former head of Serbian government media office, and close Đinđić associate, Vladimir Popović, told B92’s Insider program.

At the time, Popović accused the army and security services of involvement in the Đinđić assassination, and pointed to Prime Minister Vojislav Koštunica as “the political umbrella” for the conspirators.

Popović came under scathing attack from Mihajlović several days ago, when he accused him of setting up a parallel power structure that led to the prime minister’s death.

In line with Radovanović’s claims that the investigation will take all allegations into account, the prosecution has asked B92 to submit a copy of the Popović interview, conducted in 2005.

Đinđić trial judge receives threats

Judge Nata Mesarović said that she continues to receive threats, even after the verdict in the Zoran Đinđić murder trial.

“I received threats during the trial, and I am receiving them now,” Mesarović told daily Glas Javnosti.

She said that “when a person accepts that they are working on a serious assignment, they cannot give up because certain individuals or groups start sending threats.”

“Before the court chamber made its verdict, people were starting to talk about the stance of the Serbian Supreme Court. I see this as pressure from some circles through the media and onto the Supreme Court,” Mesarović said.

“The decision of that institution is respected and is not put into question or analyzed individually by any kind of expert. It is believed that what ever a country’s Supreme Court decides, that’s how it will be,” she said.

Those indicted for the assassination of prime minister Zoran Đinđić were convicted on May 23 and sentenced to a combined 378 years in prison.
