Bancruptcy mafia suspect to remain in custody

The custody prolongation was also based on the projected penalty and the severity of the criminal offenses that the defendant allegedly committed, the Supreme Court said in a statement.

Antelj was arrested on January 10 and placed under 30-day police custody on suspicion of belonging to an organized crime group that the media has dubbed the Bankruptcy Mafia. Antelj is suspected of embezzling 7 million euros of creditors’ money. Police had said earlier that Antelj’s arrest came as part of the ongoing investigation into the abuses perpetrated by the criminal group in the bankruptcy cases reviewed by Belgrade’s Commercial Court.
