EU and NATO forces in Bosnia conducted pre-dawn raids Friday on the homes of Radovan Karadzic's wife and children. AFP reports that they are suspected of helping the wartime Serb leader avoid justice. Bosnia: Troops raid Karadzic family homes "We are searching three premises here. These are the homes of Radovan Karadzic's wife Ljiljana, the son Sasa and daughter Sonja," the spokesman for the EU Force (EUFOR) David Fielder told agency. Dozens of heavily armed and masked Italian carabinieri serving with the EUFOR were present outside the entrance to the buildings, according to an AFP correspondent on the scene. The operation started at 5:00 a.m. in wartime Bosnian Serb stronghold of Pale near the capital Sarajevo. "We are searching the three homes at the same time. The main entrances to all three houses are occupied, and people there were questioned," Fielder said adding that entry to the houses was peaceful. The raids were carried out at the request of the Hague Tribunal in an effort to expose Karadzic's support network and determine his location, he added. The aim is to "gather information and material that could assist the ICTY and an ongoing search for Karadzic," Fielder added. EUFOR and NATO regularly conducts raids on Karadzic's family or the homes of suspected aides in an attempt to establish the whereabouts of the elusive former Bosnian Serb leader.
