Presidency of Dacic's SPS backs Vucic as joint candidate

The SPS head committee will meet a day later, on Saturday, and have the final say, SPS leader and First Deputy PM Ivica Dacic explained.

Dacic said that he expects the decision to be confirmed, adding the party plans to give great contribution in the campaign to "Vucic's victory."

He described as "nonsensical" the claims that he asked to become prime minister, adding that this was "not even a topic of discussion with the SNS."

Asked by reporters whether he would "mind" becoming the head of government, Dacic replied, "nobody would believe me if I said I would."

"I have been in power for a long time and I try to make sure the SPS is always on the pitch, never on the bench for substitute players. But still this (the premiership) is not a priority question," he said.

Asked whether early parliamentary elections will be held along with the presidential vote, Dacic said that he "does not know."

"That's a question for the biggest party, the SNS, while the position of the SPS is always that elections should be held when it's time to hold them," Dacic concluded.
