The national electoral commission (RIK) has declared valid 18 lists for April 24 early parliamentary elections valid by midnight on Saturday.

10 more lists expected to remedy their shortcomings.

Speaking on Monday for TV Pink, RIK President Dejan Djurdjevic said that two parties submitted their lists supported by forged statements.

He said the Novi Sad-based United Russian Party submitted 5,000 forged statements, and later withdrew its list, while the Republican Party submitted 1,000 forged statements.

Djurjevic explained that by law, the statements of voters supporting an election list must be verified in court or by a public notary.

"In both cases the court stamp of the Basic Court in Sabac was forged. We have given these statements to the MUP and they will investigate further," he said.

The national electoral commission received 29 lists for the parliamentary elections.

Parties can withdraw their electoral lists by midnight on April 12, and the national electoral commission has to declare lists valid by midnight on April 13, and publish in the Official Gazette the final order in which electoral lists will appear on the ballot paper.

The national electoral commission also stated on Saturday evening that 6,737,808 citizens would have the right to cast their ballots in parliamentary elections on April 24.
