PM reveals his trust in coalition partner is "not absolute"

"It is the right of the SPS to do what they think is best for them, but I don't have absolute trust and it would be unnatural to have it after 2008 and the many things that I experienced in the past period. I would not be surprised by them either wanting to stay with us, or going with the others," he told Alo daily in an interview.

According to him, the result of the upcoming early elections is "very uncertain":

"I have made countless mistakes, but I always fought, worked, it seems to me I also made brave and difficult decisions and we have all been very dedicated to fighting for Serbia's interests. I think most people see that and for that reason we can stand against our political competition in the proper manner. Whereas the result is very, very uncertain, and I am not thinking for one moment that elections are in any way a done deal."

Vucic then added it would be "terribly hard" to win after the difficult measures he is implementing, and after "the terrible campaign of untruths and the constant pressure" that he is exposed to. Nevertheless, Vucic described himself as "relaxed" and "very proud of the job that has been done."

He said April 24 is "a realistic" date to hold elections, but that the final decision on a date depends on "other organs and institutions."

Asked if the Hague Tribunal could "complicate" the situation ahead of elections by passing its verdict in the trial of Vojislav Seselj, Vucic said the court has been doing that "the whole time."

"The tribunal's criteria and behavior are strange, I'm afraid there is sometimes more politics than justice behind it, but that is all I can say to stay within the bounds of what diplomatic and decent behavior allows."

He also remarked that he "does not want to, nor has ever had the ambition" of becoming Serbia's president.

Vucic said it was his obligation and ability to talk with all parties in Serbia, and also "to respect the work of each of them" but added that "certain ideas either cannot be implemented at this moment or would not be best for Serbia."

According to Vucic, the current government will be remembered for its "key reform moves."
