The price for the opposition Radicals (SRS) recent cooperation in parliament were guarantees that Vojislav Seselj's Hague trial will be broadcast on state TV. This is according to a report in the daily Blic on Saturday, which quoted its sources at the top of the ruling Democratic Party (DS). "Deal in parliament includes Seselj broadcasts" The Radicals' eleventh-hour agreement to allow the budget to be passed in late December amid a parliamentary impasse was "only the first step in achieving a political compromise between SRS and DS leaders Vojislav Seselj and Boris Tadic", this newspaper claims. The talks that are, according to this report, underway, and conducted by people "close to Tadic", should lead to a permanent unblocking of parliament. Much of the opposition, led by the SRS, has effectively paralyzed a number of sessions since the new parliament was set up last summer, mostly arguing violations of the rules of procedure. Meanwhile, Hague defendant Seselj publicly bragged in courtroom two days ago that he took an active part in the budget negotiations in Serbia from his jail cell. He also said that he made conditions for the budget to be passed, but that those were "of a political, not monetary or corruptive nature". Although Seselj's until recently second-in-command at the SRS, now rival Tomislav Nikolic repeated his accusations that the Radicals received EUR 2mn for the decision to drop their opposition to the draft bill and allow the budget to be adopted in time, the newspaper's DS source said the price was in fact "for RTS [state television] not to discontinue its broadcasts of Seselj's Hague defense".
