The international peacekeeping mission in Kosovo stated that it is ready for all provocations and potential outbreaks of violence. KFOR spokesperson Bertran Bono said that violence will not occur, especially stressing to Kosovo Serbs that the violence of March 17, 2004 will not repeat itself. KFOR vows to prevent violence “We do not want any kind of violence here, but we have already planned everything to stop it from happening again in all situations. That means that we have different plnas prepared for the best and worst case scenarios and we are ready to answer all challenges,“ Bono said. Bono is well aware of the March 2004 riots and that the Serbs in Kosovo do not believe that KFOR can protect them. However, he said that KFOR wants to send a message to the Kosovo Serbs that they can protect them in two ways - with the presence of their troops and frequest visits by interantional commanders to all Kosovo regions. “You can see people patrolling the streets every day, and you can see the results of the KFOR, UNMIK and KPS personnel. The presence and visibility of our troops is vital,” Bono said, adding that Kosovo wants to hear from its residents about what concerns them most. “We cannot bring peace to places where people do not want to talk to their neighbors, regardless of ethnicity,” Bono said. Bono said that KFOR "learned a lesson the hard way" in March 2004. He said that in the end, the residents of Kosovo are most responsible for the situation, adding that there is no problem that can be solved with violence.
